The Public Hall is leased from Bristol City Council and managed by Shirehampton Public Hall Community Association.  It is both a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.

It was set up to provide leisure and educational facilities for the benefit of the local community.  There is a wide range of activities and events to suit all ages and tastes.  Most days the hall is busy with classes, leisure and exercise activities for all ages. The Hall Manager shares the first floor  office with Shirehampton Community Action Forum Community Development Officer Ash Bearman.

Rooms can be hired for committee meetings or classes.

We have a digital piano in the main hall and a public address system or hearing aid loop is available on request.

At weekends the hall is available for events and parties.

A model railway exhibition is held each year and there is a craft exhibition in the autumn.  Musical shows are staged twice a year by the Grainger Players. The trustees organise a Barn Dance in the spring and a children's party at Christmas. We have hosted a broadcast performance of "The Lark Ascending" with the BBC and an episode of "Any Questions".

For more information go to the Hall Users page.

We are proud of our heritage, especially the connection with Sir Philip Napier Miles at Kingsweston House and Ralph Vaughan Williams.  A beautiful piece of classical music "The Lark Ascending" by Vaughan Williams was first performed in Shirehampton Public Hall in 1920.  A concert was held in August 2009 to commemorate this event. The BBC recorded a television documentary about "The Lark Ascending" in November 2011. This included a recital by Julia Hwang and a commentary by Dame Diana Rigg.

Bristol City Council provides the Hall with some financial support, but most of our income comes from room hire charges.

The Trustees of the Community Association are local volunteers who are committed to keeping the Hall at the heart of the community of Shirehampton.  The Board meets monthly and the AGM, which is open to the public is held in July.
