PENPOLE ROOM REDECORATED
September 1998
The Public Hall was the scene of intense activity during the weekend of 22nd/23rd August. The Penpole Room, which used to be the Children's Library until the new Library extension was opened, was badly in need of redecoration. Thanks to a generous donation from the Twyford House Art Club there was money available to buy the materials. Ed and Gail Amphlett organised a working party and their enthusiasm ensured a busy and rewarding weekend.
Robert Crook supplied the scaffolding needed to reach the high ceiling, which also gave access to clean the light fittings. Paintbrushes and rollers were wielded by Ed and Gail, Janet Andrews, Claire Bush, Josie Connett, Jill Gillard and her Husband Mike, Judith Norman, Dianne Southcombe and David Thomas. Everyone was kept supplied with refreshments and lunch by Ruby Oats and Monica Carp who also did sterling work cleaning up brushes and rollers when the work was done. Thanks are due to those who offered to help on the alternative dates and to any others not mentioned above who supported this project.
The end result is an impressive face lift that all those involved can be proud of. The Penpole Room is a light airy and attractive room available to hire. For details see the Public Hall's advert in this paper or contact Joan Johnson. Phone 0117 9824108
